This release should run reliably on Linux machines with kernel versions of
2.2 or later. However, we recommend using a current 2.4 build at this time.

We have had problems with earlier 2.3 kernels showing excessively high
system CPU load. Use these experimental kernels at your own risk.

To minimize compatibility problems, all included executables have been
linked statically. This has a small performance benefit, but increases
memory consumption by about 250Kb for each process. In addition, Linux
treats multiple threads as multiple processes. As a result, you will see
several instances of each program in the process table.

Kernel patches are required to support more than 256 file descriptors per
process on 2.2 and early 2.3 builds. Even with those patches, it is
difficult to get ConferenceRoom to accept more than 1,000 simultaneous
connections under Linux.

Also, resource limits are sometimes a problem under Linux. You can check
your resource limits with the 'ulimit -a' command. A limit on the number of
open files will limit the number of connections you can handle.
